Mark and Robin Lucas grew up in Beacon, raised their children in Beacon, and are 3rd generation Beaconites! Since 2013, they have been deeply involved in local historical organizations and love sharing the fascinating history of their city. Mark has been an IT consultant for 30 years, Robin is a Web Designer, Zumba enthusiast with a short stint of teaching, but has discovered her main love is the history of Beacon.
Having been married 42 years, Mark & Robin bought the old Fuller Farm on Mt. Beacon -- mentioned in Miller's New Guide to the Hudson River and the Diaries of Abiel T. LaForge. They have experienced paranormal activity in the house, as did Captain LaForge while staying there with his Aunt & Uncle Fuller--all noted in his diary. These events motivated the creation of the Ghost In the Mist and Murder & Mayhem Ghost tours authored and directed by Robin Lucas and Emily Murnane--all for the benefit of the Beacon Historical Society and its "new home" project! Truly a labor of love. We have many exciting plans for our visitors to Beacon for the coming years and home you will check back with us often to find new places to explore and more wonderful stories to hear!
Emily Murnane is a lifelong Beaconite, born and raised on the “Mountaineer” side of town. As a lover of history Emily has been involved in local historical organizations for many years. Her roots go deep- her 6x great-grandfather fought in the American Revolution and owned a tavern in Phillipstown which was frequented by George Washington. Perhaps better known is her mother’s store on Main St, Beacon Bath & Bubble, which underwent a paranormal investigation in 2016. Be sure to ask her about Frank, the ghost who haunts her family business! Emily’s fascination with the past and the supernatural have inspired her writing and her research, which includes “My Heart Toward Home: Eliza Howland’s Story,” a one-woman show about the life of the woman who co-founded Beacon’s library. She has also portrayed Beacon’s first settler, Madam Catharyna Brett, in a series of short video presentations for the Homestead. When she isn’t combing through old archives in search of a story or getting dressed for a reenactment of Beacon’s most memorable characters, Emily is a 4-H educator and poet.
The Ghost In the Mist Walking Tours and Murder and The Mayhem Walking Tour — Produced from 2017 to 2019 for the benefit of The Beacon Historical Society. Nominated for the Dutchess County Tourism Award
As a labor of love, we have worked with non profits in Beacon to help raise funds, education and entertain with Beacon's first street theater productions in its history. We look forward to many creative projects in the future to continue this trend!
